Shimek’s Gardens
They call themselves “A Celebration of Daylilies,” and they live up to that name. They grow over 850 different daylilies to feast your eyes on. Only one mile outside of Alvin, you don’t have to put any effort into this trip. They also have tropical plants, roses, and many perennials. Alvin Historical Train Depot
Over 100 years ago, this old Sante Fe train depot was the center for business and agriculture in the Alvin area. Located at 200 Depot Centre Blvd in Alvin, it’s neat to see, and it’s just a drive-by so there’s no exertion required. The City of Alvin rents it out for gatherings, so if you are looking for a place to get married, it’s a good choice.
Oak Park Cemetary
Here’s another diversion that you can just drive through. The cemetery opened in 1892 and is interesting if you are looking for gravesites of veterans. There are Civil War gravesites from both the Union side and the Confederate side. There are also gravesites from all the other wars as well.
