Just a few miles slightly northeast of Alvin, TX, you will find a fantastic open-range zoo full of rare animals. Located at 5050 FM 517 Road, you won’t believe all the animals you can see on just 80 acres. Information can be found here.
Safari Tram
When you get there you get on a tram that takes you through all the animal habitats. You will be accompanied by a guide who will tell you all about each animal as you go through the park. Some of the animals include buffalo, giraffes, camels, zebras, antelopes, rhinos, and sloths. They even give you a bucket of food so you can feed some of the animals. Addie Lou’s Barnyard
On foot, you can explore Addie Lou’s Barnyard. In the barnyard area, you’ll be up close and personal with a Wallaby from Australia, pygmy goats, and lemurs. Also on foot, you’ll see a 1000-pounds alligator, ostrich, kangaroos, and a water buffalo. Just seeing the enormous horns on the water buffalo is something you’ll always remember.
The Numbers
In total, the zoo has over 500 animals. This includes 86 different animal species and birds, from 19 different countries. There is also a covered picnic area that seats 400 people and a total of 16 barns.
