Birds of Every Kind

Not only does the refuge provide wintering habitat for waterfowl, but it also is an entry point for migratory songbirds from the tropics.  They are heading north to their breeding grounds after having flown 600 miles across the Gulf of Mexico.  Birdwatchers have counted more than 400 different species at the refuge. 

Wildlife photographers get a chance to capture a rare bird, and they also have the perfect backdrop for their photographs. The refuge also provides habitat and photo opportunities for 95 species of amphibians and reptiles and 130 species of dragonflies and butterflies.

The Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge is not only important to hundreds of species of birds, but it is also important to the world’s ecology.  The tides coming in from the Gulf mix with the fresh waters coming down from the prairies to provide important benefits to our ecology.
