History
Space Center Houston opened in 1992. It replaced the visitor center at the Johnson Space Center. Johnson Space Center is where the United States does its astronaut training. Read about Alvin Community College in Alvin, TX here.
Mission Mars
This is an exhibit at the Space Center that opened in 2017. This exhibit focuses on NASA’s work to get ready for traveling to Mars in the future. The exhibit takes visitors through virtual displays of the Martian landscape. It also includes a real Mars meteorite that people can actually touch.
John F. Kennedy
Most people know about the speech that President John F. Kennedy made in 1962 at Rice University. At the Space Center, you can see the podium that he stood at when he said that the United States would make it to the moon during the 1960s.
Independence Plaza
At the Space Center, you can see a replica of the Space Shuttle Independence, mounted on top of the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft 905. This is the only place where people can actually enter the shuttle and the aircraft.
