What is the Roof Made Of in a Pool Enclosure?

Just like there can be lots of different shapes of pool enclosures, roofs on pool enclosures can be made of many different types of materials. Click here for facts about Alvin, TX.

Glass

Often a glass pool enclosure will have glass panels in the roof. Homeowners can choose from tinted, tempered, insulated, or high-impact glass.  Glass can also have a UV coating, or it can be specially engineered to stand up to heavy snow, or high winds.

But glass panels are very heavy. So, many times the panels that go in the roof are made of a lighter-weight material called polycarbonate. Click here to read about Flat Roofs on Pool Enclosures.

Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate is not the same as plexiglass, even though it is clear like plexiglass. Polycarbonate is less rigid so that it can be bent into various shapes for roofs, without having to be heated.  It also is good because it does not crack when contractors have to drill into it to assemble a roof.

Screen Roof

A screen pool enclosure can have screens in the roofing panels.  There are several different kinds of screens that contractors can use in roofing panels.  Screen roofs are commonly built with hurricane-rated aluminum framing that can stand up to 150 MPS winds when properly engineered and properly maintained.
